Women Veterans
Johns Creek Veterans Association is celebrating our 13th year of explosive growth, new programs, and development of the 2nd largest, privately funded veterans memorial park outside of Washington DC. In addition to the greatness of our park, is the vast inclusion of or women veterans of whom shared in our Nation’s history of service!
Women Veterans Day in June, is one of the numerous highlight we celebrate each year. This is our special anniversary, recognizing and honoring our own and all women veterans. Each woman has proudly served, made sacrifices and significant contributions while being a trailblazer. Many continue to serve in numerous capacities in our community, our association, and in their personal and professional lives. I am so proud of each and every woman veteran. Here are highlight photos of our 2022 event.

Happy Holidays to all our JCVA Women Veteran Sisters!
This is Janice Hiers, JCVA – VP Women’s Programs wishing you all a wonderful holiday season.
I’m so excited to say our women membership has grown to 24 as of September 2025. There are some regulars we havent seen for some time and hoping the New Year will bring you and your smiling faces back. You are missed!
JCVA continues to be a very active group. We enjoy our monthly dinner/ meetings. Our hot meals are catered by Pennie Clompton, our own member. We miss you when you are not there! Our Association is always up to helping our fellow veterans. Our Veterans Assistance Committee continues to work hard on helping fellow veterans. Our Veterans Park/Wall and the The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall continues to be our pride and joy. We continue to beautify it with more pavers, landscape, and more recently working with the Girl Scout Troop on a statue in honor of military service dogs.
Our 11th Squadron headed by our own member Joanne Melear continues to be a success. Joanne is assuring ongoing training and her volunteer roster is growing. Then in June every year we proudly have our Women Ceremony, this will be our 6th year on June 13, 2026. Mark your planners! Our own Navy member Katherine Lorio is our Keynote Speaker in 2026. Thank you Katherine for stepping up. Along with women events we have our other events: the Kabul Ceremony, VietNam Veterans Ceremony, WAA, and other events.Quarterly we award Veteran of the Quarter, to recognize a member who has stepped up and made contributions. This summer we had our 1st Annual JCVA picnic and if you missed it, hope to see you another year.
I wanted to shout out to our JCVA- VP Martina Schmidt CEO of She Served. The April 2025 photo shoot resulted in a beautiful tribute magazine to our JCVA women members. It was a fun time and honored those who came out for it. JCVA is so PROUD of what all the woman trailblazers have accomplished!
I also want to thank my door greeters every month. You all did a great job. Its a new program I started to have a woman member greet our members at the door and help our Treasurer Bob Walker for meal tickets etc.
One more thing, looking ahead at June 13, 2026 please let me know if you would like to be in the ceremony this year.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to help out however you can. Scott Hoehn, Membership Chair sends out monthly invites to our events. Hope to see more of you out this year.
Thank you for your ongoing support of JCVA. You are a valued member. I look forward to seeing you on January 22, 2026 at our next dinner/ meeting.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Blessings,
Janice Hiers

Old Soldiers Day 2024 Honoring Women Veterans
Martina Schmidt, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), Chairwoman of the “She Served Initiative.” The Alpharetta City Band Brass Ensemble provided music before and after the program. Scouts from Troop 51 presented the colors, and a memorial brick “Honoring All Women Who Served” was added to the Walk of Memories.
It is quite an honor to serve my fellow woman veteran members, guests and prospective members. I invite you to join me and other women veterans at one of the most dynamic, friendly, inspiring, and active veterans associations in Georgia!”
We Welcome All Women Veterans
Every 4th Thursday each month, we meet in the Park Place Senior Center with a hot full-course meal served at 6PM. Our meetings follow from 7-8 PM. Local high school’s Young Men’s Service Club help serve and escort you to your table. You will enjoy the camaraderie, fellowship, and military family atmosphere. Our meetings include a guest speaker which is veteran related. So come early and stay late!
A most memorable part of your visit, simply must a walk along our Memorial Walk, which includes a 1⁄2 scale model of the Traveling Vietnam Wall… “The Wall That Heals”. You’ll also enjoy the dedicated plazas, with our notable Women’s Plaza, a water feature and Gazebo. Help us perpetuate the history and memory of our women veterans past, present, and future. I look forward to personally meeting you soon.
Blessings,
